ARTIST'S STATEMENT

I am adventurous in spirit. I need to be inside what I am painting and I need it to be inside me. I have travelled the world, climbed high and walked alone from the mountains in Tibet, through the glacier filled cirques of Alberta, the red rock canyons of Utah, to the shell filled tide pools of the Pacific Coast. I have examined the coral reefs in Belize and flown glider planes, always trying to see the essence of what is.

I believe a prime function of artists in society is to evoke in the viewer a new and exciting visualization or conceptualization. I feel the flows and forces of nature inside my being. I experience the energy of a glacial stream, an unfurling flower, the pink sand desert, my heartbeat… each a small part of the great continuum of all that is. This energy that is life I express in visual terms.

As I mature I can see the energy that comprises everything, my work represents my personal synthesis of modernist principles with my focused intuitive response to nature's forces and flows. My paintings express the layering, ambiguity, subtlety, sensuality and spirituality of life.
